ITI COPA (Computer Operator & Programming Assistant) – Basic Notes
Topic -Types and working of fire extinguishers. & Introduction to Computer components
1. Introduction to Fire Extinguishers
A fire extinguisher is a safety device used to control or extinguish small fires in emergency situations. It is very important in computer labs, offices, and workshops.
Fire extinguishers work by:
Cooling the fire
Cutting off oxygen supply
Removing fuel
Breaking the chemical reaction of fire
2. Classes of Fire
Class A: Fires involving solid materials like paper, wood, cloth
Class B: Fires involving flammable liquids like petrol, oil, paint
Class C: Fires involving flammable gases
Class D: Fires involving combustible metals
Class E: Fires involving electrical equipment
3. Types of Fire Extinguishers and Their Working
1. Water Type Fire Extinguisher
Used for: Class A fires
Working: Cools the burning material below ignition temperature
Not used for electrical or oil fires
2. Foam Type Fire Extinguisher
Used for: Class A and B fires
Working: Forms a foam layer over fire, cuts off oxygen supply
3. Dry Powder Fire Extinguisher
Used for: Class B, C and electrical fires
Working: Powder forms a barrier between fuel and oxygen
4. Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) Fire Extinguisher
Used for: Electrical and Class B fires
Working: Displaces oxygen and cools the fire
Leaves no residue, safe for computers
5. Wet Chemical Fire Extinguisher
Used for: Cooking oil and fat fires
Working: Forms a soapy layer and cools the fire
4. General Safety Rules While Using Fire Extinguishers
Read instructions before use
Keep extinguisher upright
Aim at the base of the fire
Do not use water on electrical fires
Maintain safe distance
Topic 2: Introduction to Computer Components
Introduction
A computer is an electronic device that accepts data, processes it, and produces output. A computer system consists of hardware and software components.
Main Components of Computer
1. Input Devices
Used to enter data into the computer.
Keyboard
Mouse
Scanner
Microphone
2. Central Processing Unit (CPU)
The CPU is the brain of the computer. It performs all processing and calculations.
Main parts of CPU:
ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) – performs arithmetic and logical operations
CU (Control Unit) – controls all operations
3. Memory Unit
Stores data and instructions.
Primary Memory: RAM, ROM
Secondary Memory: Hard disk, Pen drive, CD/DVD
4. Output Devices
Used to display results.
Monitor
Printer
Speaker
Projector
Importance of Computer Components
Helps in efficient data processing
Essential for office and industrial work
Improves speed and accuracy
Used in education, business, and communication
